We developed an integrated clinical decision support system in order to improve the management of acute illnesses. It is a mobile application used for children aged 2-59 months at Médecins Sans Frontière (MSF) primary care facilities.

The objectives of MSFeCARE are to:

  • Improve the identification and prompt management of severe cases
  • Better target antimicrobial prescriptions for non-severe cases
  • Support vaccination prescription for children coming to primary care facilities

The clinical algorithm consists of integrated clinical pathways formalising the best practices in term of clinical assessment, classification and treatment.

It is an android application developed to help health workers navigate through the algorithm, and as a result reach appropriate diagnoses and treatment. The system collects real-time data on clinical activities.

Local Health departments are trained on the use of the mobile application during the initial implementation phase, consequently helping with the adoption of the system.
